Your job
In your role as a Data Scientist, you will:
- Expand the scope of Advanced Analytics and AI, developing cases that leverage the latest emerging technologies, fostering an innovative environment
- Engage in complex long-term projects, with focus on continuous delivery in small increments
- Understand different advanced data techniques and identify suitable ones that can help answering the question
- Stay curious and up to date with trends of technologies, advanced analytics, genAI and cloud platforms (Databricks)
- Conduct data experiments on different datasets (products, transactions, channels, customers, CRM/ sales)
- Work both in individual contributor roles (leading project) and in collaboration / co-creating with multiple data scientists, data analysts, data engineers and machine learning engineers
- Extract actionable insights from large data sources, perform recurring or ad hoc analyses / reports
- Act as a data sparring partner with business stakeholders on smart KPIs & reports, with relevant insights for the right audience
- Translate business challenges into data questions, understand underlying processes for various products & services, and connect the dots
- Engage and guide non-technical stakeholders and team members on Advanced Analytics cases
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and manage different stakeholders
- Practice the art of storytelling through numbers and effective visualization techniques
- Focus on continuous improvement and automation of existing deliverables
- Organize your work in a structured manner and effectively communicate to all parties involved
- Be curious, ask enough questions to deep dive and not hesitate to change/ challenge the status quo
- Remain proactive in coming up with ideas to improve/ solve (technical/ business/ data) challenges
Working environment
We are the Product Data Practice department, part of the Data Domains of Accounts, Savings & Transactions, and Insurances (AST&I), currently being set up to support implementation of the bank’s federated data governance model. The AST&I Data Domains are within the Transaction Banking product unit, which covers a vast portfolio of products: accounts, payment cards, packages, savings, insurances, open banking APIs, trade finance, digital products like Apple Pay/ Google Pay, and associated sales, business & risk management processes. We contribute significantly to the revenue of the bank, manage different regulatory and operational topics, and contribute to Objectives and Key Results set for the Personal & Business Banking Client Unit, serving about 6 million Personal & Business Banking customers.
The Products Data Practice department is composed by two Centers of Expertise: 1) The newly formed Advanced Analytics & Artificial Intelligence CoE and 2) Business Intelligence & Analytics CoE. In addition, this department is responsible for our cloud-based data and analytics platform - Transaction Banking Domain Data Store (DDS).

We apply advanced analytics and emerging technologies (like GenAI) to explore, research and gather valuable insights; predict and forecast trends of product’s usage and transactions; optimize processes; define, report & monitor and improve performance ; advise on new proposition designs and duty of care topics; help decide the course of action and setting priorities to achieve great customer satisfaction and vendor relations. We also act as change agents to embed a data driven mindset at all levels of the organization enabling them to harness full potential of the data that we have, thereby strengthening data maturity and literacy in the bank.
All our Data Scientists that work within AA&AI CoE, have T-shaped profiles and next to data analytics and data science they can play different roles like: Subject Matter Experts, Business Liaisons etc. The Products Data Practice is 25+ people strong (65% Analysts & Scientists + 35% Engineers & modelers) and consists of 7 nationalities which are based in the Netherlands and India. Your profile
Do you think you are a fit? Check your qualifications:
- Degree in STEM or economics/business, with an analytics focus
- 6-8 years of work experience, with at least 3 years in data science field
- Exhibit high level of proficiency in programming languages such as Python, PySpark, SQL and coding best practices
- Experience with Advance Analytics techniques (Forecasting, Prediction, Cluster Analysis, Machine Learning, Generative AI), and eagerness to learn and develop in that area
- A combination of analytical skills, intellectual curiosity, communication, and reporting skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in English (and Dutch)
- Experience with data visualization tools like PowerBI or Tableau
- Great to have: Knowledge of the financial sector and/or banking products
- Great to have : Experience in working on azure/ Databricks/ or similar cloud platforms
- Great to have: Affinity towards technical topics including data and machine learning engineering
- Great to have: Microsoft DP-100 certification (Azure Data Scientist Associate)
- Nice to have: Knowledge of agile methodology, and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Nice to have: Microsoft AZ-900 certification (basic knowledge of Azure cloud services)
- Nice to have: Microsoft PL-300 certification (PowerBI Data Analyst)
